　確かに今日掘ったばかりの蓮根を分けてくれますから直売所ですが、実際は圃場から掘り取りした蓮根の洗い場であり、出荷のための箱詰め作業所のようです。
　ここに立ち寄れば蓮根の話は勿論の事、農家の生業が分かります。家族総出の作業ですから世代を超えて美味しい蓮根づくり伝承がなされていることも分かります。
　この日立ち寄ったところで先客のご婦人から、「あんたも買いなさいよ。ここのは美味しいんだから」と言われて、私は返答に困りました。何といっても近隣の実家に行けば買う必要のない蓮根です。「ごめんなさい。私が買うと叱る人がいるので」と答えると、旧知の直売所の主が笑いました。
